In each episode, three are thrown into a bizarre, frequently disturbing, and often paranormal or supernatural-type misadventures. The series is known for its dark, surreal and airy humor.
So, here are 13 interesting facts about the show: -
1. Courage began to appear in 1996 as a short seven-minute short called “The Chicken from Outer Space.” The Short was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film.
2. Whenever courage works to save its owners, the diversity of Mission: Impossible theme song begins to play.
3. The show is set in a town called Nowhere, which is a real place in New Mexico. In real life, an elderly couple who lived in Nowhere with their pet dog often report bizarre performance and creature-like behavior, including a creature they identified as Skin Walker. After their report, the couple went missing under unusual circumstances. Only the dog was found.
4. There are tons of fan theories around the cartoon, but the most popular is that none of the monsters are real. The theory suggests that they are all built by Courage’s skittish mind.
5. The letters "DIL" can be found at the back of the entire series as head to Dilworth.
6. The show ran from November 1999 to November 2002, when it was canceled after 52 episodes lasting four seasons. Cartoon Network gave Courage the axe when a coalition of mothers complained that an episode featuring a relationship between a female fox and female rabbit depicted lesbian symbolism.
7. Courage the Cowardly Dog was revived in 2014 with the CGI short titled “The Fog of Courage.” Facebook's campaign to bring the game back for the fifth season began in July 2016.
8. The episode “The Great Fusilli,” is the final episode of season 1 of Courage the Cowardly Dog, and concludes with a scene in which Courage basically controls the corpses of Muriel and Eustace as dolls trying to keep her life going. The more you think about it, the more it makes sense. This scene means that after season 1, every episode of the series is nothing more than thoughts of the courage he has in his mind. It means that Muriel and Eustace have actually died but the courage has gone crazy and he pretended to believe they were still alive and tried to make us believe that too.
9. Muriel's blood type is ABXYZ
It is revealed in the episode "Bad Hair Day" that Muriel's blood type is actually 'ABXYZ', which is considered surprisingly unusual - due in large part to it being entirely fictional.
However, this information is enough for Eustace's mother, Ma Bagge, to kidnap Muriel, hoping she will do several tests for her company, Growth Industries. While Eustace seems oblivious to her mother's tasteless plans, she bravely manages to reach out to Muriel and save her skin again.
10. There was an opponent named Benton Tarantella on Courage the Cowardly Dog based off director Quentin Tarantino.
11. Muriel wasn't always good
In stark contrast to Muriel's typically calm, rational demeanor, Muriel’s younger self is loud, messy, boisterous and mischievous, as is shown in the episode “Little Muriel”, in which she’s turned into a three-year-old by a mysterious tornado.
With courage forced to take care of her while trying to reverse the effects of the storm, young Muriel shows an incredibly demanding and aggressive attitude, making the life of a poor dog a living thing hell albeit very short.
13. King Ramsey's curse from Courage the Cowardly Dog is based on the infamous curse of Tutankhamun which famously claimed the earl of carnavon.
