Tom and Jerry are an American portable media franchise and a series of short comedy films created in 1940 by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. Best known for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's 161 short film theaters, the series focuses on the conflict between the equals of a cat named Tom and a mouse named Jerry. To name these characters, there was a competition broadcast in the studio to come up with the final names of the cat and mouse. The humble actor John Carr came up with the names of Tom and Jerry, which won him the competition and $ 50.
15. They were originally called Jasper and Jinx.
