Tom and Jerry are an American portable media franchise and a series of short comedy films created in 1940 by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. Best known for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's 161 short film theaters, the series focuses on the conflict between the equals of a cat named Tom and a mouse named Jerry. Many shorts also have several repetitive characters


1. Tom & Jerry and their creators



Tom & Jerry was made by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, but did you know you were guilty of having your childhood in these people? All right! They not only created a famous animation series, but also created a studio that gave us Yogi Bear, Top Cat, Scooby-Doo, The Smurfs, The Flintstones and many more, many more!


2. Cartoon Released In 40s.

Tom and Jerry first appeared on February 10th 1940. Its first episode was titled 'Puss gets the boot "and was produced by producers William Hanna and Joseph Barbera.
 

3. When Tom and Jerry became friends

Back in 1975, Tom and Jerry actually became friends, good friends! In a special series, we saw them travel around the world competing in sports, solving mysteries and enjoying the beautiful old balloon. Fortunately, it did not last.

The title of the series Top and Jerry is from an 1823 book entitled Life in London or The Adventures of Jerry Hawthorne and his best friend “Corinth Tom”


6. Tom & Jerry and The Spike & Tyke Spin-Off

Did you know that Tom & Jerry had their own spin-off series? Created in the 1950s, Spike & Tyke cartoons depict the sacrifices of a well-known bulldog and his son. However, it ran only two episodes, because the studio was closed.


7. Tom and Jerry Bano-Cocktail Named After Them

The traditional Christmas cocktail in the USA was named A Tom and Jerry. Made with Eggnog and Rum. The cocktail was invented by the author of the book Life in London, Pierce Egan.

8. MGM Asked The Creators To Stop The Cartoon

Among the amazing facts about Tom and Jerry, the cartoon was the first working collaboration between Hanna and Barbera working for MGM. The studio asked them to stop thinking that the idea was too common but when it became a major success to win an Oscar in 1941, they allowed the creators to move on.

9. Tom and Jerry and Prequel

In the 1990's Tom & Jerry were revived, as were other children's shows. Tom and Jerry's new series acted as a kind of "prequel" series and focused on the duo's early years.

You might think Tom & Jerry is an American as the cartoon might find it, but a short time back in the 1960s the animated series was actually made in Czechoslovakia. The 13 Czech epsiodes had a very different tone than the original one which had heavy violence and a strange atmosphere.

11. Joseph Barbera Began His first Work With Tom  and Jerry

Joseph Barbera began his career as a prostitute working for Tom and Jerry's first Van Bueren studios in 1932. He joined MGM in 1937 where he met his colleague William Hanna.

12. Tom and Jerry Never Speak Without a Few Times

Although the cat and mouse duo probably never spoke. The first time Tom talked about it was singing a song, is you or are you not my baby. In the 1992 feature film ‘Tom and Jerry. The two talked about length for the first time.

13. Tom and Jerry Win 13 Oscar nominations

Among the Oscar nominations for thirteen of the best animated cartoons, Tom and Jerry got seven of them. The first Oscar was won by the title of episode, Yankee Doodle Mouse in 1943 and the seventh was won by Yohan Mouse in 1953. Among the most bizarre facts about Tom and Jerry, Space NASA even went so far as to invent two satellites that each chase each other like Tom and Jerry.


14. Tom & Jerry and Naming Competition

To name these characters, there was a competition broadcast in the studio to come up with the final names of the cat and mouse. The humble actor John Carr came up with the names of Tom and Jerry, which won him the competition and $ 50.

15. They were originally called Jasper and Jinx.

The cat - followed by a corner of more than four - chased a small crawling mouse named "Jasper" in the first drawing, Puss Gets a Boots. The name of the mouse never appeared on the screen of the cartoon itself, although it was named "Jinx" in a previous production. That being said, there was a debate about that issue, among the creators anyway. Hanna certainly thought the mouse would be named Jinx, as mentioned in her article A Cast of Friends. Barbera was not for sale.

17. They were present at the Gene Kelly live show.




The 1945 music comedy Anchors Aweigh is accompanied by a dance icon paired with Gene Kelly and many celebrity partners, but no one is as good as Jerry Mouse. Kelly and Jerry worked together on the magic of filmmaking in "The Worry Song." Jerry is king, and Tom makes a cameo as a servant. Some sources say the film initially wanted Mickey Mouse, but Disney refused to release their famous mouse.
